Mission & Vision as an Acquirer:A wave of small bookkeeping and accounting firm owners is reaching retirement age. Many have no succession plan and no obvious buyer. When these firms close or get absorbed in a cost-cutting roll-up, long-tenured staff lose their jobs and small-business clients lose a partner who knew their books cold.
Our company was founded in 2017 to show that back-office work can be delivered by a team that's paid well, treated well, and sharing in the success it builds. We are a proud certified B Corp. We run on Open Book Management with profit sharing, we're a 1% for the Planet member, and we're certified climate-neutral through The Change Climate Project.
Our vision as an acquirer is to give retiring bookkeeping founders a home for their life's work. We bring their firms into our company, retain their teams (good bookkeepers are hard to find), keep their clients well served, and protect the founder's reputation in their community. Over time, acquired staff join our profit-sharing and move toward employee ownership alongside the rest of the team.
The purchase is funded over time from the profits the business already generates, paid to the founder on a patient timeline, so there's no debt load forcing layoffs or service cuts.
Our Culture & People:Our company runs on Open Book Management. Every team member is trained on our financials, so everyone understands how their work moves the whole company forward. We report results internally every month. We share profits and pay living wages across the team. People stay for years, which is rare in back-office services.
When we bring in a new firm, the people come with it. We don't buy a client list and discard the staff who built it.
The bookkeepers who know a client's history are the reason that client stays, and we treat them that way.
Our culture is inclusive. How someone looks or who they love has nothing to do with whether they do good work. As a B Corp, we care about the environment and the communities where we work. We support a strong democracy and the nonprofits working to make the world more livable.
Our Intent as Stewards:What a selling founder can count on from us:
Staff keep their jobs and their roles. Acquired team members join our company's profit sharing and move toward employee ownership over time. We do hold them to the same professional standards as the rest of the team, with skills appropriate to their level, and we look for alignment with our culture, so continued employment isn't guaranteed for everyone. What we promise is a fair shot, with the guidance and mentorship to succeed here.
Clients keep continuity. The people who know their books stay on their accounts wherever possible, so the relationship the founder built doesn't break on day one.
The founder sets the pace. Some want a clean exit. Others want to stay through a defined transition or keep an advisory role. Both work.
The structure is patient. Our preference is to buy a firm and pay the founder over time from the profits the business generates, rather than loading it with debt or stripping costs to hit a return target. That keeps the team intact and the founder paid.
We run a company built for this work. Folding in a small bookkeeping firm is an extension of what we already do every day.
Our Experience as Buyers and Stewards:Our company has been a certified B Corp since 2018, and financial operations are our core service. We deliver bookkeeping, full-stack financial operations, and enrolled agent tax work for clients across consumer brands, professional services, B2B, SaaS, construction and design, nonprofits, and foundations. Taking over a set of books, cleaning up a system, and keeping clients confident through a transition is work our team does routinely.
This would be our second acquisition. During the pandemic we bought a small customer support business that served activities companies. We structured the purchase so the founder would be paid as the work hit agreed benchmarks. The work proved hard, those benchmarks weren't met, and the founder had already decided to move on to a new career in engineering, so the performance payments never came due. We kept several of those clients and one of the team members, and we are still close with the founder working as an advisor on his new venture.
We learned from it. Bookkeeping firms carry steadier, recurring revenue than that support business did, which makes paying a founder from operating profits far more dependable. Our preference is to buy a firm and repay the founder over time from the profits it generates. We'd rather move at the right pace with the right founder than rush a deal we can't steward well.
